Space Planning

We help busy organisations meet their spatial needs, so they can grow and prosper by working more efficiently, reduce operating costs, and increase staff satisfaction and retention.

The Challenge

As organisations grow and change, so do their spatial needs. Over time, ad-hoc decisions made to accommodate this growth can result in inefficient workflows, redundant expenditure, and poor spatial quality. People end up working in crisis mode and the ad-hoc cycle repeats itself, compromising team performance, client perceptions, and attraction/retention of talent.

The Solution

Our Mindful Design Approach is a structured process to create an overview of an organisation’s functional and spatial needs. We use active listening to identify short- and long-term goals and collaborative problem-solving, creating win-win solutions that achieve buy-in and cut through corporate politics.
Our process starts with the diagnosis, which helps us identify and review options and strategies before designing and implementing a specific solution. As a result, decisions regarding space are taken in a more transparent and structured manner.

Case Study

Find out how this client saved R2 million and achieved a 1900% return on design.

We were appointed to assist a large health NGO gain an overview of their spatial needs and how to meet these needs. During the process, it emerged that one division urgently needed space for a new clinical trial. Our client was trying to decide between a costly refurbishment or renting a space in another location. Both options were expensive and less than ideal. Everyone was feeling under pressure and stressed. Through the spatial diagnosis, we helped identify an existing space that could be made available immediately, saving approximately R2million in rental or refurbishing costs.

Client: University of the Witwatersrand

“My team and I manage the office requirements for 600+ people working in various locations. Trying to meet everyone’s needs made us feel overwhelmed and stressed. The Spatial Diagnosis helped us find immediate solutions and plan ahead in a transparent way without getting caught up in corporate politics.
