26’10 south
2610 South was named after the latitude of Johannesburg, and founded by Anne Graupner and Thorsten Deckler in 2004. The practice has worked on a variety of projects, ranging from exhibitions, publications, films and informal settlement upgrading to public infrastructure, urban design, educational spaces, and custom homes.
The work of 2610 South has been exhibited and published globally. The pratice won the Bauwelt Prize (Berlin, 2010) and was selected as the most interesting practice in South Africa in the Backstage Award (Venice, 2013).
About Thorsten
Co-founder & Director of 26’10 south Architects
Thorsten was born in Namibia and raised in Johannesburg. He studied at Wits University and worked for Pritzker Prize-winner Rem Koolhaas at OMA in the Netherlands during his practical year. His final year thesis was exhibted at the RIBA in London. After graduating, he worked for two years for Peter Rich Architects on rural development projects. As part of sharpCITY (co-founded with Henning Rassmuss and Anne Graupner) Thorsten co-curated exhibtions at the Venice Bienale in 2000, the Sao Paulo Beinale in 2003 & 2005, the Architecture Centre in Vienna in 2005.
Thorsten is a popular speaker and has presented talks and workshops in South Africa, Brazil (Escola da Cidade, Sao Paulo), Argentina (Codoba University), the USA (Sci-Arc, Temple University, Columbia University, Washington University), the UK (Architectural Association), Germany (Architeure Museum, Munich), Namibia (NUST, Windhoek), Morocco (African Perspective Conference, Casablanca) and Zambia (Student Housing Forum, Lusaka).
In 2020, Thorsten took over 2610 South and relaunched the practice as the first Mindful Design firm in Africa.
In parallel to his practice as an architect, Thorsten also works as an artist and visual storyteller and is busy with his first graphic novel.

Project Architect, Production Manager
Gabriella Shukor- Born, raised, and based in Johannesburg - with a detour to Cape Town for her studies - she is driven by circular approaches to architecture and the potential of adapting existing buildings and materials. Backed by five years of project management, design, and documentation experience, she is currently leading the realization of a residential project in Higgovale, Cape Town.
Junior Architectural Technologist
Abdulssalam Azaroug- Abdul graduated top of his bachelor’s class at the University of Pretoria. He works on design development, technical documents, and site admin, and gets involved in admin and marketing. Originally from Libya, he contributes to an open, global outlook to our locally rooted work.
Project Architect
Mia Pulles- Mia was born and raised in Johannesburg and graduated as one of the country’s top students. She arrived at 26'10 South Architects via a varied path as co-founder, freelancer, and traveller. Mia brings a calm, effective approach to site supervision and detailing, paired with hand-drawings that are uniquely compelling and joyful. Alongside her architectural work, she maintains her creative practice as an artist and ceramicist.
Office Manager
Nandipha Ndlebe- With a background in business administration and town planning, Nandi keeps the studio organized and moving forward by taking an active role in marketing and business development. She is training to become a property investor and manages a fragrance business.
